About 500 protesters detained in Myanmar

Ever since Aung San Suuchii arrest, the country’s people have been protesting against the military government. Myanmar has issued arrest warrants against six celebrities for allegedly encouraging them to take part in the protests. In addition, about 500 people have already been detained.

A report by the news agency Reuters on Thursday (February 18th) revealed this information. Protests against the military coup this month have paralyzed the country’s government offices.

Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Thursday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. Later they gathered in different parts of the city with other students.

Earlier on Wednesday (February 18th), security forces were seen firing openly in clashes with railway workers in Mandalay, the country’s second-largest city. One person was injured, locals said.

As part of the protests in the country, the railway workers stopped the movement of trains.

This year’s protests have taken a heavy toll on business activities. The army on Wednesday issued arrest warrants against six celebrities, including film directors, actors and musicians.

They have been accused of encouraging government officials to join the protests. There are two punishments in this case.

Actor Lu Min wrote on Facebook, “It’s like seeing this unity of our people. The power of the people will return to the people.
